Abstract

The article studies the ways in which the new generation in Britain and Greece has been affected by austerity policies. These two countries have pursued systematic political, economic and social reforms that have led to significant changes in the way in which the new generation lives in the present-day reality and is planning its future course. The study identifies and compares the similarities and differences on the basis of which young people are experiencing the recession and points out possible trends for the more general negative effects of austerity practices in the European context. It is argued that there are some similarities to the experiences of the 18-25 age group, but at the same time there are marked differences. The text analyzes the content of these experiences and the resulting instability observed in the personal and professional life of young people in the two countries.
