Abstract

Fitness development in physical education is most often attained via implementation of fitness training principles into school based settings. It is seldom attained via adherence to developmentally appropriate principles. The program presented in this article provides the physical educator with a method and the tools to attain both. This program can be used in physical education across elementary, middle, and high school educational stages, and it accommodates students of varying needs and constraints. The program presented is descriptive, not prescriptive. As such, more exercises can be added, but the stepwise progression is recommended in teaching the skills to lead the way through the increase of exercise intensity and complexity. The entire program is available for school implementation and is supported by a teacher text and teaching assistance. (Contains 2 tables and 3 figures.)
