Abstract
Scope of presentation
To chart part of a child’s journey from not being accustomed or able to care, to a life with (some) care for things, self & others
To share techniques & models used to support engaging with the felt sense in a healthy, contextualised manner
To look to implications for caring leadership
This presentation shows how aspects of motivational interviewing and filial play are integrated to form a recipe for developmental change. An compelling 'towards' (more appealing) motivation is sought to replace an 'away from' that which is determined less desirable. To encapsulate these techniques, an overall coaching methodology is referred to. A caricature of a child's journey is shared to demonstrate the synthesis of these approaches in alignment with empathically attuned caring. In addition to outlining the implementation and impact of the aforementioned approaches, implications for leadership policy and practice are explored using scenario planning.
