Abstract

This article examines and raises questions about the nature of lecturing in higher education in relation to the types of
skills and abilities graduates might/should gain during a degree in civil engineering. These attributes are examined
against questions of curriculum design and development, types of knowledge and the epistemological stance civil
engineering lectures might have and how this influences the stance taken by students.
