Abstract

Meillassoux’s description and critique of correlationism, and Zahavi’s response to Meillassoux are here recruited to explore underinvestigated aspects of qualitative research. Taking as its starting point transcript interpretation, in this paper it is argued that, although they may be unaware of the term or the arguments involved, many if not all phenomenological nurse researchers are correlationists. If this proposition is accepted, these researcher’s ought, presumably, to take an interest in the ramifications of the theory choice being made. These ramifications are shown to be complex. They might also be important. They are certainly epistemically challenging.
