Drawing on the ideas of Pestalozzi (1746–1827), a Swiss educator and social reformer, this chapter considers collaborative mentoring in settings, exploring three key areas woven together through a Head, Heart and Hands approach. We demonstrate how when engaging in the process of collaborative mentoring, which is underpinned by theoretical knowledge, mentors (experienced practitioners) and mentees (trainee practitioners) are not just using academic literature to make informed choices but also engaging in action research and contributing to communities of enquiry that have the potential to empower individuals and transform practice. At the heart of collaborative mentoring is the holistic relationship between the mentors and mentees. We consider the importance of nurturing trusting non-hierarchical and empathetic relationships that are also productive and developmental. For the ‘hands' aspect of the approach, we explore practical strategies that are essential for embedding new skills. This holistic approach to mentoring, rooted in pedagogical love, empowers and motivates both the mentor and mentee by embracing their full humanity and fostering lifelong learning.
