Abstract

Hosted by Guru Performance’s founder and director Dr Laurent Bannock, each podcast features world leading practitioners and researchers that have expertise in physiology and performance nutrition. The specific specialism of the guest will usually dictate the theme of the podcast. The podcast typically starts with the guests informing the listener about their career history. It is also during the opening segment that Laurent usually asks the guests to define key terminology within the subject area. This clarifies the language used in the subsequent discussion. The passion Laurent has when discussing evidence-based (or as he says, evidence informed!) nutrition is clear. The evidence discussed is often research that has been conducted by the podcast guest. In an age where pseudo-science runs rife, Laurent and guests analyse and critique the latest research in an honest and easy to digest manner that allows the listener to begin to understand how to translate such research into practice. As a listener you are always made aware that there are a number of caveats to consider when reading/listening to the latest nutritional information such as, “you can, but should you” i.e. the relevance, the context and the environment. A must listen for current/aspiring sports nutritionists.
