Abstract

The article looks at the threshold concept of death that suggests death occurs over a prolonged period of time, marked by incremental loss of function and individual physical and cognitive function. It discusses how this relates to medical and nursing procedures designed to establish a time of death before exploring the idea of identity from physical and psychological perspectives.
