Abstract

This chapter explores the statutory guidance aimed at safeguarding children's welfare in the Early Years sector and the collaborative efforts to protect children from harm. It prompts a critical assessment of Munro’s (2011) assertion that the focus should be on learning to do the right thing (protecting children) rather than merely following procedures correctly. Through references to thresholds for statutory intervention, current literature, and sector-specific regulatory and inspection frameworks, the chapter draws from a Designated Safeguarding Lead and a student’s reflections on safeguarding in practice, encouraging practitioners to actively engage in creating cultures of vigilance within the sector to enhance their practice.
