Abstract

For learning beyond the classroom’s four walls to be truly valued, it needs to be considered by management, teachers, pupils and parents to be a fundamental element of every child’s formal education. It should be seen to be as normal a part of school life as teaching indoors. Teaching outdoors can be fun, stimulating, exciting and rewarding, and it can be all of these things without
being seen as a treat, a reward, or a special Welly Wednesday (Pickering, 2017). We all appreciate the importance of creating a vibrant environment within the school to aid the holistic development and progress of the children in our care. Working outside the classroom expands and enriches this learning environment.
