Preparing your Case Study Analysis

Preparing for a case study is an important process to support participant centred learning. Great cases offer great opportunities for learning, but this can be devalued by poor planning. For students, the process begins with active reading of the case, taking note of the timeline, any guiding questions, common themes contained within the narrative, and additional data required which could be derived externally. A seven-step approach is presented for students looking to analyse a case in readiness for a class discussion. For case tutors, preparation of case sessions is supported by the case author’s teaching notes, which have been provided to accompany each case study in this book. These should be used to provide additional teaching resource and training support to tutors. The chapter concludes with a summary of additional external case training and development resources that can be accessed to support the case preparation process.
