Exploring the Human-nature Relationship: The Place of Nature in Education

An exploration of the human-nature relationship and nature in education in the UK. Some of the workshop time will be used to introduce writing opportunities for the NAEE Environmental Education journal and RGS blog, as well as exploring the bioeconomic value of butterfly, alongside the purpose and process of education.
 
We are running out of time to make the world understand what educators have known for years: that climate education is not optional. It is not a luxury. It is one of the most powerful tools we have to confront the climate crisis and shape a just and sustainable future. Nelson Mandela called it a weapon – Education is the most powerful weapon we have – I don’t like to talk of education as a weapon – more a tool! What does that look like in ITE at UW and in the UK curriculum?

The fight for climate education in school curriculum across the globe is at a critical point. In just a few months, COP30 will take place in Brazil, a COP that could mark a turning point, or a point of no return. We must ensure it delivers real action, not just empty promises.
