Abstract

Many carers in the UK struggle to be recognised and to receive appropriate levels of support from statutory services.
Gypsies, Roma, and Traveller cultures do tend to 'care for their own' without identifying as carers. Such a cultural norm can be used by statutory services as a reason to not provide services. Services for carers do not reach out to Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities and many members of these communities are unaware of any support services that might be available. Discriminatory factors run throughout the disability and mental health research reported.
