Abstract

Live AV performance at The Vivid Projects Gallery as part of The Supersonic Festival 2018. This was performed under the name Ferric Lux.

Friday June 22nd 2018

A live performance of electroacoustic sounds and synched, live generated 3D visuals. All imagery and sounds made by John Bradburn.

A Line... is an exploration of the physical within sound and the immaterial within image. This is explored with reference to the relationship between mind and body. The mental world of immaterial memory of physical is in continual flux and placed next to heavy materiality of the sound. The aim is to distort the perceptions and play with Spinozas idea of emotions and affects how they move the body.

Loud high pitched and low frequency sounds are performed live with reference to the repetitively of dance music. The ability to feel bass and be 'hurt' by high frequency is explored to create a physical affect. Forms referential to dance music are used through out to create the potential for movement and dancing within the audience.

The idea of screen and speaker as points of transformation are explored. Sound into physicality / representation into light.

The physicality of the sound is counterpointed with the immateriality of the images. Human figures are glimpsed through processed video to reveal the material nature of the projection to the audience. The filmed performers make eye contact with the audience to create moments of connection between audience and the representation. The techniques of abstraction used are the tools of representation themselves - 3D wireframe models, camera focus and dot printing are all referenced.
