Abstract

This chapter enables you to reflect on your experience of empathy, compassion and emotion within practice with children and families. The chapter:
defines empathy and compassion within practice;
investigates ‘empathic distress’, ‘compassion fatigue’ and burnout;
explores ‘compassion satisfaction’ and personal fulfilment;
examines ‘emotional labour’ and the impact on the practitioner.
