Abstract
The article explains the role of practice nurses in recognizing and responding to self-harm in vulnerable adolescents. Topics covered include factors that increase the risk of self-harm in young people, the prevalence of the behavior in Great Britain, and the developmental process of the suicidal ideation. Also discussed are the triggers for deliberate self-harm, the significance of hearing out the suicide attempters, and the position of the practice nurse in understanding and intervening.
