Pedagogical Delivery Strategies for Performance Analysis

This chapter explores pedagogical delivery strategies within performance analysis (PA), focusing on how analysts can evolve from data presenters to facilitators of learning in academy football. It contrasts behaviourist and constructivist learning theories, advocating for a shift towards player-centred, dialogical feedback that fosters understanding, autonomy, and decision-making. Central to this transformation is the use of video telestration, a tool that enables visual annotation and co-construction of meaning. Drawing on frameworks such as Vygotsky's social constructivism and Universal Design for Learning, the chapter outlines four key pedagogical roles for analysts: curator, translator, influencer, and educator. Empirical evidence is presented to demonstrate how telestration enhances tactical recall and engagement, particularly when embedded within player-led sessions. Practical strategies are provided to support analysts in designing inclusive, developmentally appropriate feedback environments. This chapter positions PA as a pedagogically rich process that empowers players to become adaptable, self-regulated learners.
