Global voices: empowering students for world-class education

The chapter shines a light on the two-way process of adaptation that is being undertaken by international students and their universities in the context of the growing numbers of students from around the world coming to the UK to study. It argues that learner voice is an essential factor in ensuring that this adaptation progresses effectively, protecting the academic success of the students and securing the reputation of the universities as providers of world-class education. This chapter is a co-operative project, weaving together the perspectives of one postgraduate student from Nigeria with the latest theory and research to learn more about the voices of international learners in the UK, and consider how universities can become more effective listeners.
