Abstract

This chapter explores the fundamental rights of children and young people within the UK's health and social care systems, emphasising the importance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). It provides an overview of children's rights, including participation, protection, and provision rights, and discusses their practical application in health and social care settings. The chapter highlights the significance of a rights-based approach, advocating for the involvement of children in decision-making processes and ensuring their voices are heard. It also addresses the challenges faced by children due to adultism and power disparities, and highlights the need for professionals to uphold these rights to promote the health, well-being, and protection of children and young people.
