Abstract

Over the last couple of decades, female entrepreneurship has received increasing attention among researchers, policymakers and the general populace (Yadav and Unni, 2016). Women-owned businesses are one of the fastest growing entrepreneurial segments in the world, which make significant contributions to innovation, employment and wealth creation in all economies (Brush et al. 2006; Véras, 2015). This proposal addresses knowledge gaps related to a specific group of women, namely migrant women entrepreneurs by focusing on the entrepreneurial experiences and narratives of female migrants from China born under the Chinese one child policy and attempts to seek answers for the question. The research aims to explore how female entrepreneurs implement and sustain their business abroad and how distant family support shapes this and the influence that this has on motivation.
